Surviving prostate cancer and fighting for others

Early detection was critical to Butch’s survival from prostate cancer five years ago. Following a successful surgery, Butch realized that many of his male friends did not take screening recommendations as seriously as they should, even though screening had saved his life. Butch vowed to dedicate himself to ACS CAN’s efforts to fund prostate cancer research and advocate for accessible screening services.

My mother-in-law thrived for almost 10 years after her diagnosis due to new advances made in medicine at the Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa. This gift of additional time was due to the advancements made with research funding.

In addition to being a survivor, Butch lost his mother-in-law to heart failure after surviving a long battle with stage 4 mantle cell lymphoma. He willingly gives his time to advocate for research funding and programs that can end this disease that has taken so many lives.  His mother-in-law thrived for almost 10 years after her diagnosis due to new advances made in medicine at the Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa.  This gift of additional time was due to the advancements made with research funding from the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute.
